Karpal: I’m not threatening PAS over hudud law issue
PETALING JAYA: DAP chairman Karpal Singh says he has to speak out against hudud laws in the interests of the public and his party.
“I have no personal agenda. I am not threatening PAS. I am only making an attempt to get PAS leaders to accept reality,” he said in a statement.
For the past few days, Karpal Singh has been embroiled in a “running battle” with PAS leaders over the implementation of hudud laws.
He said PAS’ stand to uphold Islamic law went against the Federal Constitution.
He added that there had to be absolute adherence to the Constitution, which was the supreme law of the land, and unqualified acceptance of the judicial pronouncement of the Supreme Court. (Excerpt from the Star Online, 17 January 2009)
Comment:
Everyone agrees that the Federal Constitution reigns supereme in the land. Except that some time amendment is being made to suit the government in power has the support of the two-third majority in Parliament in the name of the "Rakyat".
Everyone fully agrees with Karpal Singh of DAP when it comes to the Constitution, not excluding the Clause on Hudud Laws. Now how about Caluse 152 of the Federal Constitution on the National language? Hopefully Karpal Singh and DAP would agree absolutely, without any "buts" Not only Karpal, but the Barisan National Government too, especially the minister in-charge of Education.
