SEMBANG AHAD: PITA POLITIK (18)

Umno vice-president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has come out with the strongest indication yet that he would be contesting one of the top two positions in the December party polls. He said he had received a lot of feedback from “grassroots, advisers and proposers” who told him that it was time to move up the party hierarchy. (The Star Online, 11 May 2008)

Comment:
UMNO members are familiar with jargons like "it's the wish of the people"; "the grassroots want me in", "I receive a lot of feedback from the grassroots, advisers and proposers" or whatever. Tan Sri Muhyiddin has experienced the ups-and-downs in UMNO politics and he is highly respected and a very senior cabinet minister. he certainly would not want to be looked at as a leader without a vision.

Remember when he was once a Menteri Besar of Johor. During that he surely must have harvoured high political ambition. If not he would have reached that far, especially his urge to scale the political ladder, as high as he could make it. He must have said it's high time he makes up his mind. And he seems to think now is the right moment to push forward, presumably bearing in mind UMNO's dismal performance in the last 8 March General Elections. Also remember the recent comments on Pak Lah and Dato' Seri Najib Tun Razak made by former PM, Tun Mahathr Mohamad.

Welcome Tan Sri to the world of real politics. PM Pak Lah, as UMNO President must and would be very happy to see you joining the fray. What is neede is "Give the grassroots some hints: "Is Tan Sri going just for somebody's running mate or is Tan Sri searching for a running mate? We bet Tan Sri must have "collected" enough staunch supporters among the media people, columnists and bloggers to get it spearhead the political inertia through the media.
